Good Morning,
Happy Chooseday!
This week, we're presenting you with an opportunity to be part of a historic moment in Australia's journey towards reconciliation. On Saturday October 14, Australians will be asked to vote on whether to add a Voice to Parliament to our constitution. Weāre choosing to support Yes23! š³ļø What is the Voice to Parliament? The Voice to Parliament is an advisory body of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Their role is to provide essential advice to the Government on issues that uniquely affect their communities. It's a straightforward idea with practical goals:
Recognising Indigenous Culture: It acknowledges the incredible 65,000 years of Indigenous culture within Australia's 122-year-old constitution.
Listening and Learning: The Voice represents a diverse group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals who can offer insights to Parliament on matters that directly impact them.
Constitutional Protection: Ensuring the Voice is enshrined in the Constitution, safeguarding it from being dismantled by changing governments.
When governments listen to people, they can achieve better outcomes and allocate resources more effectively. š¤
This idea was proposed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and has been decades in the making. Over 80% of Indigenous peoples support the Voice (Ipsos Polling, 2023).
The Voice provides advice on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Itās up to the Government to decide how or if they use that advice.
It's evident that the current approach isn't working, and it's time to change the status quo.
Visibly showing your support for the Voice in your community and online is a simple way to give others confidence in voting Yes too.
š Five ways you can support the campaign:
Follow Yes23 on social media.
Sign up to 'Walk for Yes' on 16th and 17th September.
Purchase a yard sign, sticker or T-shirt.
Volunteer in your local community.
Donate to help Yes23 send campaign resources to the areas that need it most.
Support the Campaign and R U OK Day š In addition to supporting the Voice to Parliament campaign, we encourage you to take a moment on R U OK Day, Thursday 14th September, to check in on your mates. R U OK Day is a national day of action in Australia, dedicated to inspiring and empowering people to meaningfully connect with one another and ask the simple yet vital question, "Are you okay?" This day serves as a reminder to foster open conversations about mental health and well-being and create a more compassionate and supportive society. It's a simple yet powerful way to show support for one another. As part of this, we invite you to join the 'Walk for Yes' event, where you can visibly show your support for the Voice in your community and check in on friends, family and colleagues who you may be walking with.
It's not often that we have the chance to be part of history. Join thousands of supporters from across the country over the weekend of September 16th and 17th to show our support for recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the constitution through a Voice. You can find details for events across the nation here. Let's unite for change and choose progress over division. Together, we can rewrite history, honoring Indigenous voices and making our nation even stronger. šŖš Cheers to doing good, one Chooseday at a time! Giving Solutions, the GoodCompany team.
