💙 This ChooseDay, we shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes who often work behind the scenes—carers.
From October 13th to 19th, we celebrate National Carers Week, recognizing the 2.65 million Australians who provide essential care and support for family members and friends living with disability, chronic illness, or age-related conditions (Carers Australia, 2024).
The theme for this year's Carers Week is "Millions of Reasons to Care", reminding us that behind every carer, there's a unique and personal story of love, sacrifice, and dedication.
Carers play a vital role, often at the expense of their own well-being, and it's time we acknowledge and appreciate their enormous contribution. 🌸
Did you know? Young Carers, like those supported by Little Dreamers, account for 1 in 10 young people in Australia. That’s over 235,000 children and teenagers balancing school, friendships, and caregiving duties. 📚
Despite these challenges, many Young Carers miss out on support due to a lack of awareness.
How can you help?
🙋♀️Check in with a carer you know and offer emotional support or practical help, such as running errands.
💪 Volunteer your time with organizations that support carers, likeLittle Dreamers, which focuses on young carers, offering programs that provide respite, resources, and empowerment.
💙 Donate to nonprofits like Carers Australia or Little Dreamers. Just a small donation can provide much-needed resources, respite care, or programs to help carers balance their own lives.
