Good Morning,
Happy Chooseday!
Did you know that April is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Awareness Month? It's a crucial time to shed light on this common yet often misunderstood condition that affects an estimated 10-15% of the population! (IFFGD, 2024).
š¤ So, what exactly is IBS?
It's a chronic disorder that affects the large intestine, causing symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, and constipation. Unfortunately, many people go undiagnosed and untreated due to a lack of awareness about their symptoms.
Based on a survey taken by IFFGD (2024), a significant proportion ā 35% to 40% ā of individuals who report IBS in the community areĀ male. Approximately 60% to 65% of individuals who report IBS in the community are female.
š” Raising awareness about IBS is essential to improve the lives of those who are undiagnosed and to create a better understanding for those already struggling with the condition. By increasing awareness, we can reduce stigma, promote understanding, and encourage early diagnosis and effective management.
š How can you help spread awareness?
It's simple! Start by sharing information about IBS on your social media platforms, using hashtags like #IBSAwarenessMonth and #YouandIBS. Educate your friends, family, and colleagues about the signs and symptoms of IBS, and encourage them to seek help if needed.Ā
But awareness is just the first step.Ā šŖ
You can take action today by supporting organizations like Crohn's & Colitis Australia (CCA) on GoodCompany.
For over three decades, CCA has been empowering Australians living with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis (collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease or IBD) to live fearlessly. By donating to CCA or participating in their fundraising events, you can make a difference in the lives of those affected by IBD.
š Ready to get involved?
Check out CCAĀ on GoodCompany today for ways to support their mission and show your solidarity with the IBS community.Ā
Help an IBS Support Group remain active for a $30 donation.
Fund CCA's educational resources and publications for a $75 donation.
Send a group of 4Ā teenagers to a Youth Empowerment Program event for $120 donation.
But the impact doesn't stop there.
You can also support IBS awareness by participating in local events, sharing informative articles and resources, and advocating for better access to healthcare for those with IBS.Every action, no matter how small, helps make a difference in the fight against IBS.Ā
šLet's make this IBS Awareness Month a time of education, empowerment, and action. Together, we can create a world where everyone affected by IBS receives the support and understanding they deserve.
Thank you for choosing compassion and advocacy for those living with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Your efforts truly make a difference.
Happy Chooseday,
