Good Morning,
Every woman deserves to feel safe, valued, and equal. Yet, for many, the reality is far from fair.
From the boardroom to the classroom, from the workplace to the home, women continue to face barriers that impact their financial security, safety, and wellbeing. International Women’s Day [March 8th] is a moment to celebrate progress—but also a reminder that there’s still work to do.
📊 The reality for women today:
💰 The gender pay gap – In Australia, women earn 12% less than men on average. That means they’d have to work an extra 44 days a year just to earn the same.
🚨 Violence against women – 1 in 3 women globally have experienced violence, including intimate partner violence and non-partner sexual violence.
🛑 Unpaid care work – Women spend three times more hours than men on unpaid care duties, limiting their ability to earn, save, and invest in their future.
🏡 Superannuation gap – Women approaching retirement have a 25.1% lower median super balance than men, making financial independence harder to achieve.
💔 Homelessness –Of the 167,388 women and girls that accessed homelessness services in recent years in Australia, 68 per cent were aged 18–55 years, and 24 per cent were aged under 18.
These numbers are more than statistics—they represent real people, real struggles, and real challenges. But they also show where we can take action.
💜 Choose to support Bridge It
For young women experiencing homelessness, their prospects and future can feel scary and uncertain. Bridge It provides support, a sense of community and most importantly, a home for these women (aged between 17-21).
In conjunction with Housing First, Bridge It has brought to life a place that offers all of this and more...
The Cocoon, a beautiful building in Melbourne, houses up to 16 young women at a time who require a safe place to call their own. Each unit has been thoughtfully renovated to provide a homely quality, with additional therapies, support and a friendly ear always on hand. 🤝
Residents can stay for an extended period of time. Enough time to recover and receive the care and community they need for the future- another feature that sets Cocoon apart.
The Cocoon building was made possible by so many wonderful individuals and businesses coming together to provide expertise, trades and materials. Cocoon is proof that collaboration is powerful, and the success stories of the residents speak for themselves. 💙
💖 Bridge It has grand plans. Youth homelessness is not fixed with one home, and they aim to spread their expertise and ideas far and wide. To do this, they need support and funding.
Their big dream is to have a Cocoon in every state and that their revolutionary way of approaching homelessness can bring systemic change.
Donations help the Bridge It team house young women, support them and help them experience stability and safety.
This International Women’s Day, let’s do more than acknowledge the problem—let’s be part of the solution. Every action brings us closer to a world where all women have the security and opportunities they deserve. 🌟
With love,
the GoodCompany team
