Good Morning,
WE LOVE AUSTRALIA! This is an amazing country which is made greater when we embrace our First Nations knowledge, culture and people. And we believe that moving "Australia Day" to a day which we can all celebrate (eg. MAY 8 - MATE DAY) isn't a matter of 'if', it's a matter of 'when'.
Meanwhile, as we approach January 26th, a day that holds varied significance and emotions across Australia, we are encouraging you to choose how you observe this day. There is power in our choices, and this week, more than ever, there is power in yours.
To be clear, we are not the experts, and we encourage you to educate yourself with First Nations resources, support First Nations NFPs and take time on this.
This Chooseday, we simply ask to make a choice about how you want to observe Jan 26.
🖤 Choose to understand, learn and reflect the truth about Australian History: If you're taking the day off, why not use the time to educate yourself?
LISTEN: Frontier War Stories.
WATCH: The Australian Wars
💛 Choose to work, but support First Nations charities: It may be considered a 'business as usual' day, but it's important to remember why you're opting for a silent protest. Donate First Nations NFPs that are on the front line providing support:
❤️ Choose to attend an event: show your support by showing up at a community-based event or rally. Be mindful, be safe and be respectful.
A list of all Jan 26 events and rallys can be found at this link.
🖤 Choose to support Indigenous music: However you choose to spend the day, be sure to support Indigenous culture and music. Listen to a playlist of songs that recognize the truth about Jan 26.NITV has orchestrated its Top 40 Survival Day playlist of Spotify.
This Chooseday is about respect, understanding, empowerment and of course - choice. It's an acknowledgment of the diverse narratives and histories tied to Jan 26 and an effort to foster a culture of inclusivity and choice within our community.
Understanding our shared and diverse histories is key to moving forward together. We look forward to your participation and the shared journey of understanding and respect.
If you have any questions or thoughts, please feel free to reach out. Together, let's make Jan 26 a meaningful day of choice.
In solidarity,
the GoodCompany team.
