This Chooseday 7th March, Choose the Op Shop!

Good Morning,

Thank you for choosing to start your day with a Chooseday mindset!

This Chooseday, we invite you to donate items to your local charity/op shop.

Whether it's to do your bit for the environment, de-clutter your home or to help those in need - you're doing a good thing when you donate (or shop) at charity/op shops.

And let's be honest... who doesn't love a good thrift?

Did you know? The carbon footprint of new clothes bought every minute is greater than driving a car around the world six times.

To add to this, one third of fast fashion ends up in landfill. That's a whole lotta clothes not being worn, a whole lotta items not being used and a whole lotta rubbish left on the earth that won't break down. And that just doesn't sit well with us.

When you donate your pre-loved goods (or shop at) charity/op shops, you're not only reducing your carbon footprint, you're also helping those in need. Donating to charity/op shops provides clothes and items for the homeless, vulnerable communities and families who may have lost their personal items in a fire or other disaster

"Many people still think that their unwanted clothes won’t make a difference to charities, but at Oxfam we can reuse or recycle almost anything. The items donated raise millions, helping us continue our vital work to end extreme poverty around the world.”

- Fee Gilfeather, Head of Audience and Strategic Planning, Oxfam

When you donate items, funds, or shop at charity/op shops you are:

  • Supporting charities that are doing good

  • Reducing your carbon footprint

  • Decluttering your home and wardrobe

  • Giving to those in need

  • Supporting your local community

  • Saving money!

Some of our favourite shops are Vinnies, Salvos and Sacred Heart.

When searching your home for items to donate, GoodCompany suggests asking these 3 simple questions:

  1. Have I used/worn this in the last 3 months?

  2. Does this item bring me joy?

  3. Would this item be better loved by someone in need?

Whether it's today, this week, this month or this year - we hope you'll join us in promoting sustainable fashion, reducing the impact on the planet and supporting your local charity/op shops.

Thank you for choosing to do good this Chooseday. Know someone who will benefit from a Chooseday mindset?
